What are the practical applications that can help marriages to thrive?

Let’s start with a look at the history of the bouquet. Did you know that wedding bouquets were seen as a method to ward off evil spirits from the union? Of course there is another tradition says that the person that catches the bouquet would be the next in line for marriage. This is where our discussion begins.

What you believe influences how you make choices in a relationship. In psychology we have two terms I would like to include in this discussion. They are internal and external locus of control. External locus of control is believing that things happen outside of your control. Internal locus of control is believing that nothing happens beyond your direct efforts. The reality is that a person may find themselves somewhere in the middle between what they can and cannot control. Understanding the difference can assist a person in navigating their expectations for what fosters a mutually sustainable relationship.

Don’t start a relationship with superstition. Start your relationship with reasonable expectations of your partner that are clarified through discussion and corresponding commitment. As easy as that sounds, sometimes there are cognitive distortions, defense mechanisms from prior experiences and other communication barriers that can impede the process of clarification. My relationship skill building class is designed to assist you in acquiring the skills that will help you to successfully nurture your relationship.

 Register

We Offer Classes for Relationship Empowerment, Parental Support, and Spiritual Growth

https://www.emergingchristians.com/relationships-blog/we-offer-classes-for-relationship-empowerment-and-parental-support

https://www.emergingchristians.com/relationships-blog/we-offer-classes-for-relationship-empowerment-and-parental-support#comments

Uncategorized

We now offer evening and weekend classes to support you in various aspects of your life. This is not meant to be a how to guide on constructing your relationship but may give you some ideas about where you want your experiences withing your relationship to go.

Fact or Myth.. "Giving Up Myself is Expected."

Do you agree with this? I do not. I think on the contrary that having a relationship with someone does not mean giving up the person that you are. Sure there may be some things that change as you transition from being single towards becoming a couple, but that does not mean you lose your sense of self in the process of offering yourself to another. It means you are agreeing to share yourself with another person because you want to share yourself. Equally, your partner is not giving up themselves but sharing themselves with you. Within this process of sharing, you more than likely find joy in the gift of each other that cannot be bought ...but can be cultivated through refined expressions and interactions. (Part of the training I teach through my sessions to help build these skill sets.) Some may take comfort in their material resources or accomplishments as a means to maintain a relationship, however, no matter how prosperous you may be...You cannot replace the exchanges that lead to love with money or accomplishments. Nor can you make a person give more of themselves than they are willing to give when it comes to having a relationship. Love cannot be rushed but it can be developed if two people are willing.

If you find yourself trying to win love by seeking approval of others or the affirmation of another's perspective of your worth, you may be missing the most valuable asset that you have in your relationship. You. Trying to cultivate love without recognizing what you have to offer in love can be quite the challenge. Here are some points that I believe can help this type of personality to have more success with their satisfaction in the relationship.

7 Key points to remember for a person not fully aware of what they bring to a relationship:

1. You both are in this relationship by choice, not by obligation.

2. You chose to be with one another for what you enjoy about being with one another. Nagging, complaining, conflict and guilt driven relationships rarely are ones that a person wants to develop.

Continue...

 Schedule an Appointment

Taking Him Back or Letting Him Go..

https://www.emergingchristians.com/relationships-blog/taking-him-back-or-letting-him-go

https://www.emergingchristians.com/relationships-blog/taking-him-back-or-letting-him-go#comments

Uncategorized

Taking Him Back Or Letting Him Go:Girl please...taking him back is not the hardest thing a person has ever done in their lives. Everybody has a process for coming to a conclusion about what they want in life and what they don't. The room you give yourself for growth make sure you are equally able to extend that to that man too. This said...the better at fairness you become, the easier it can be for you to discern when someone is not being fair with you. Then make your call...fostering strength through your decisions is better than wreckless rage because of hurt and disappointment in my personal opinion. You have alot to live for, but sometimes that life you want means you gotta fight through the stuff you don't want. I bet farmers wish their crops were ready for the picking as soon as they got the land but the reality is they have to cultivate it first...eventually the harvest will be there..but first comes the work.
Want more?
