"Job 33:14-15King James Version (KJV) 14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;" Man has always been fascinated by dreams. The interpretation of them across cultures and nations spans back as far as recorded history. Today, I would like to explore the significance of dreams in context of how they may influence and impact your life. As a Christian, I believe that God not only reconciles us from our sinful separation from him into his family, but God also speaks to us through this established relationship. Understanding the ways that God speaks to us can be quite the learning curve it seems, but as we continue to commune with him through bible study, prayer and supplications, our sensitivity to his voice becomes clearer. This said, in our exploration of how God communicates with us I would like to explore one way identified as communication through dreams. (continued) There are many Biblical accounts of God speaking through dreams to people. Here are two accounts below:
1. Genesis 37: 22-28 God speaks to Joseph (Jacob's son) through a dream. 2. Matthew 2:13 God speaks to Joseph in a dream through an angel. One thing we can observe from God speaking to us through dreams is that from it a person can receive a perception of upcoming events, direction in a way of responding to the upcoming event, and warning about the consequences of failure to heed God's direction. Being open to dreams does not mean you are flighty or spacey. Perhaps God is trying to tell you something. Even in the study of Psychology Freudian's believe that dreams reveal significant insights to understanding parts of ourselves that are harder to see. Often in Biblical account it is noted that people who did not understand their dreams would consult with someone who could interpret them. God uses people to help you clarify his message to you. Understanding dreams extends across cultures and many schools of thought. Let's be more open to discerning the voice of God through our dreams. Here are some Biblical accounts were these can be observed: 1. Pharaoh was instructed to prepare for famine and times of plenty. This God given dream to Pharaoh was interpreted by Joseph. Genesis 41. 2. Joseph, the husband of Mary, was warned in a dream to leave a dangerous situation that was brewing. Matthew 2:12 My friend, the powerful revelation is that God is speaking through dreams to people today. I can give an account to times when I have had dreams that give me specific direction for actions that I was to take in life or messages I was to share with someone else that turned out to be exactly what they needed for what they were going through. For instance, there was a time when I had a dream that my mother's dog was going to get into a fight, he was going to look like he was dead but for her not to lose hope, not to believe it. He was not dead. It was a weird dream and I couldn't make sense of it beyond that direct implication. I shared with my mother ever so gently and told her it could be nothing at all. Later that week a bull dog got into her back yard and brutally shook her little dog to the brink of lifelessness. I received a call from my weeping mother, she reported the dog, seemingly lifeless because of what had happened to the dog. I reminded her of the dream and the instructions provided through it... that her dog was not dead according to the dream. She took him to the vet and they were able to bring him back. She could have accepted the fate of her dog as dead but by direct influence of the dream additional actions were taken that saved that little dog's life. Glory, hallelujah God speaks to us through dreams today! Things to keep in mind.... 1. God does not speak against his logos (written) word. 2. God does not tell you to harbor hate towards any person. 3. God does not have to speak to us through dreams to get his messages to us but it is one form in which he communicates to us as we live out our relationship with God here on earth. That's the end of this segment but the beginning of your exploration of how God may be speaking through dreams to you.
